Our Story

History

Family-Operated since 2008

The story of Country Roads begins with Scott Phair. In his earlier years, he was a member of the United States Marine Corps, where he traveled the world and experienced a wide variety of cultures. During the summer of 1983, he was in DC for the 4th of July. Shortly after the fireworks, he met a young women named Jill McCauley (Later known as Jill Phair). After the Corps, he worked in tech with EDS for several years, followed by decades of work in the food industry.

In 2008, Scott Phair founded Mountaineer BBQ. The first store was located in Triadelphia, West Virginia. He later moved the business to a food truck in Dallas Pike, where his daughter Kelly Phair began to help. With years of culinary experience, she helped create new recipes, and introduced new flavors to the menu. In 2017, his son Kyle Phair graduated from WVU with a degree in business. Kyle used his education to implement a new business plan and marketing strategy.

After several sessions of brainstorming, the official name was changed to Country Roads BBQ. The business moved from Dallas Pike to 56 Carmel Road, Wheeling, West Virginia.

Our goal is to offer the highest quality BBQ in the state of West Virginia

Scott Phair

In his earlier years, Scott was a member of the United State Marine Corps, where he traveled the world and experienced a wide variety of cultures. In the summer of 1983, he attended the fireworks in Washington, DC, for the 4th of July. After the fireworks ended, he ran into a young women by the name of Jill McCauley. Several dates, and many years later, they were married with 3 children. In 2008, with support from his wife and family, Scott Opened Mountaineer BBQ in Triadelphia, WV.

Kyle Phair

Kyle focuses on the various facets of business that revolve around Marketing and Finance, whether that’s securing new skills for designing websites, or creating financial statements to fuel internal growth. Prior to co-founding Country Roads BBQ, he managed a group of 22 sales interns across the Keystone Region for a Digital Marketing Agency.

Kelly Phair

Kelly has been passionate about food since the age of 14. She was involved in several food competitions at a young age, which drove her motivation to work in the food industry. She specializes in all things related to cooking, whether that’s preparing hand made rubs & seasonings, creating new recipes for baked goods, or smoking different kinds of meats. She’s also passionate about saving animals and helping them recover from serious injuries. She currently splits her time between working at Wheeling Hospital, and growing Country Roads BBQ!
