Veteran Owned, Family-Operated since 2008
The story of Country Roads begins with Scott Phair. In his earlier years, he was a member of the United States Marine Corps, where he traveled the world and experienced a wide variety of cultures. During the summer of 1983, he was in DC for the 4th of July. Shortly after the fireworks he met a young women named Jill McCauley (Later known as Jill Phair). After the Corps, he worked in tech with EDS for several years, followed by decades of work in the food industry.
In 2008, with support from his wife Jill, Scott decided to go out on his own and open Mountaineer BBQ. The first store was located in Triadelphia, West Virginia. He later moved the business to a food truck in Dallas Pike, where his daughter Kelly Phair began to help. With years of culinary experience, she created new recipes, and introduced new flavors to the menu. In 2017, his son Kyle Phair graduated from WVU with a degree in business. Kyle used his education to implement a new business plan, design this website, and create marketing strategies for the business.
After several sessions of brainstorming, the official name was changed to Country Roads BBQ. The business moved from Dallas Pike to our new home at 56 Carmel Road, Wheeling, West Virginia.
Our goal is to offer the highest quality BBQ in the state of West Virginia.
